An island of flowers – Part 8: The West (well, actually mostly the North!)

Empusa pennata (Conehead mantis or "little devils" as we call them in French) on my @naturetrek_wildlife_holidays tour in Andalucia. Cool critters!

Springing towards spring 🐝

The distinctive "three fingers" of Saxifraga tridactylites, one of my favourite spring "weeds". A tiny plant that grows on walls and rocky paths, so tiny that it rarely gets noticed. But it is rather cute...🌱

Giving a talk at Kew Gardens on Monday was the perfect excuse for a visit to some of its fine inhabitants. The Lucombe Oak is probably my favourite, planted in 1773. Odd to think this tree is older than the French revolution! 🌳

Fiery.

Like a fluffy, honey-scented golden pillow. 🌼 A taste of the South of France, fresh from @lacollinedesmimosas 💛
