The orchard is looking desperately sad with trees suffering and dying back, but the light tonight was so beautiful. Long grass really brings out the contrasts. Change of scenery today with @theswedishshipgotheborg passing Tower Bridge in London - the replica of a 1738 ship that belonged to the Swedish East India company and one of the largest operational wooden sailing vessels in the world. Striking to think that it is on such ships that LinnΓ© and his disciples travelled the world to study natural sciences. πŸͺ²πŸŒ΅πŸŒ΄πŸ¦‘πŸ’ Our local cross border nature reserve, Hammelsberg πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡«πŸ‡·πŸ‡±πŸ‡Ί looking very Mediterranean, with the Moselle river and vineyards in the background. The slopes are so hot and dry that they also smell like garrigue! Mossy... #Vosges No prairie planting in sight, just a field edge with Wild Parsnip, Scabious and various grasses. Nature isn't too bad a designer, at times... Not all insects try to blend in with their surroundings! Burnet moths (Zygaena) have colourful wings with striking patterns designed to prevent predators from attacking them. They also use plant chemicals to produce a cyanide-based liquid that is toxic to potential attackers. πŸ¦‹ Is there a sexier fruit than peaches? I despair a little after having lost four peach trees to leaf curl and drought 😞 but this one seems to be doing well Sunset on the rose garden @mondorf_domaine_thermal. Clin d'oeil Γ  @lejardindalexandra πŸ˜‰ First visit to the @jardin_des_panrees_, a wild and characterful place at the heart of the Vosges mountains. Glorious views, interesting plants, a real people's garden (not forgetting the friendly dog, Opium!)
